Active Adults Programs & Classes

A variety of drop-in programs and classes are offered at the Carbon Valley Active Adults & Community Center for adults age 55 and older.

Weekly Drop - In Programs 

All weekly programs are located at the Community Center. 

Weekly Class Descriptions 

All are exertion Level 1: Mostly Sitting

  • Morning Joe Coffee: Stop by the Active Adults & Community Center for a warm cup of coffee and conversation. A great way to start your day! 
  • Crafts and Conversation: Bring your favorite craft to work on while socializing, laughing, and having fun. 
  • Mahjong: Join us for a game of Mahjong! Mahjong is a classic tile-based game that combines strategy, skill, and a bit of luck.
  • Pinochle: It's Pinochle time! Pinochle is a lively card game full of strategy, teamwork, and just the right amount of friendly competition to keep things fun!
  • Cards: Join us for a Hand and Foot card game. Enjoy friendly competition while making new friends. 
  • Diamond Dots: Bring your own Diamond Dot art project and create with the group. Never created a Diamond Dot? Learn how to from the group. Diamond Dots is a fun way to create art and is sure to keep you coming back each week. Materials not provided by CVPRD.
  • Veteran Coffee Hour: Enjoy coffee, conversation, and camaraderie with other veterans.
A weekly schedule with activities like "Morning Joe," Mahjong, Cards, Crafts, Diamond Dots, and Pinochle. Locations listed.

Visit our CivicRec registration site to register online anytime, or stop by the front desk. Please note: some programs may have a registration deadline prior to the program date. Make sure to register early!

7's Card Game 7/31, 8/7, 9/4 and 9/18

High Plains Library District Class: Tea and Scones 8/3 

Join us for a delightful class where you'll learn how to make traditional homemade scones from scratch while discovering the fascinating history of afternoon tea. We'll cover essential baking techniques for creating light, tender scones, along with tips for serving them. We'll explore the origins of afternoon tea, and the customs and traditions that continue to make it a beloved social ritual today. Perfect for bakers, tea enthusiasts, and anyone interested in culinary history. Registration in advance suggested, space is limited.

Lobby Stop with High Plains Library District 8/4 and 8/18 

CVPRD and the High Plains Library District Outreach team have partnered to bring a little bit of the Library to you! Library lobby stops will occur the first and third Tuesday of each month. Librarians will bring books, help you reserve books, recommend books and more. Stop by the Community Center to learn more about this program.

Tech Help 8/4 

Have questions about your devices? The High Plains Library District Outreach Librarians will be on-site to help! Bring your smartphone, tablet, or computer and get hands-on assistance with everything from apps to troubleshooting common issues. Same great program as before, but a new day and time.

Blood Pressure Checks 8/13* 

Swing by to have your blood pressure checked by trained professionals. It's a great opportunity to stay on top of your health and say "hi" to our local first responders. Registration not required.

August Bingo 8/14 

Join us for our monthly White Elephant Bingo. Bring a new or gently used item to add to our festive prize table, wrapped or unwrapped (surprise factor optional!) Then join fellow patrons for lively rounds of bingo, laughter, and a little friendly chaos. All rules and guidelines will be shared before the first game begins. Registration in advance not required.

Social with Sarah - Table Topic Games 8/17

Bead Class 8/31 

Ever wondered how beads come together to create beautiful jewelry and art? Join fellow older adults as volunteer Barb guides you through the basics of beading and unique beading techniques. All supplies are provided - feel free to bring your own beads or use those that are provided. Registration suggested, not rquired.

Active Adults Fitness Orientation 8/31 

Designed especially for our Active Adult fitness members, this welcoming session highlights evertything available through your membership. Enjoy a guided tour of the rec center and discover how to make the most of your benefits. Durin gthe visit, you'll be introduced to our Active Adult programs and receive a brief interactive overview of how to safely and effectively use the circuit and cardio equipment. Free for SilverSneakers and Renew Active, One Pass, and Silver&Fit members. Advanced registration is required.
