Active Adults Programs & Classes

A variety of drop-in programs and classes are offered at the Carbon Valley Active Adults & Community Center for adults age 55 and older.

Weekly Drop - In Programs 

All weekly programs are located at the Community Center. 

Weekly Class Descriptions 

All are exertion Level 1: Mostly Sitting

  • Morning Joe Coffee: Stop by the Active Adults & Community Center for a warm cup of coffee and conversation. A great way to start your day! 
  • Crafts and Conversation: Bring your favorite craft to work on while socializing, laughing, and having fun. 
  • Mahjong: Join us for a game of Mahjong! Mahjong is a classic tile-based game that combines strategy, skill, and a bit of luck.
  • Pinochle: It's Pinochle time! Pinochle is a lively card game full of strategy, teamwork, and just the right amount of friendly competition to keep things fun!
  • Cards: Join us for a Hand and Foot card game. Enjoy friendly competition while making new friends. 
  • Diamond Dots: Bring your own Diamond Dot art project and create with the group. Never created a Diamond Dot? Learn how to from the group. Diamond Dots is a fun way to create art and is sure to keep you coming back each week. Materials not provided by CVPRD.
  • Veteran Coffee Hour: Enjoy coffee, conversation, and camaraderie with other veterans.
Weekly schedule of activities including "Morning Joe," games like Mahjong and Pinochle, and a Veteran Coffee Hour.

High Plains Library District Class: Fast Forward Film Showing 5/4 

Join us for a free viewing of the documentary. Take a proactive look at the process of aging in the PBS documentary addressing realizations, conversations and mindset required to age successfully. This program will include the film showing, a brief discussion and film related local resource materials. Registration in advance suggested, space is limited. Sponsored by Aspen Club, a program by UC Health.

Book Club 5/4 

Join us for a lively discussion about the book of the month. Books selected are from a variety of genres, both fiction and non-fiction. The program is in partnership with the High Plains Library District, Carbon Valley Branch.

Lobby Stop with High Plains Library District 5/5 & 5/19 

CVPRD and the High Plains Library District Outreach team have partnered to bring a little bit of the Library to you! Library lobby stops will occur the first and third Tuesday of each month. Librarians will bring books, help you reserve books, recommend books and more. Stop by the Community Center to learn more about this program.

May Bingo 5/8 

Join us for our monthly White Elephant Bingo. Bring a new or gently used item to add to our festive prize table, wrapped or unwrapped (surprise factor optional!) Then join fellow patrons for lively rounds of bingo, laughter, and a little friendly chaos. All rules and guidelines will be shared before the first game begins. Registration in advance not required.

Blood Pressure Checks 5/14* 

Swing by to have your blood pressure checked by trained professionals. It's a great opportunity to stay on top of your health and say "hi" to our local first responders. Registration not required.

Compression Only CPR Class - Confidence to Act in an Emergency 5/14 

Compression-only CPR is a simple, effective lifesaving skill designed for everyday people. This class teaches adults how to recognize the signs of cardiac arrest, call 9-1-1, and provide strong, steady chest compressions until help arrives. No rescue breaths are required, techniques are taught with safety and confidence in mind, so you ’ll be prepared to help someone when it matters most. Presented by Frederick-Firestone Fire District. Registration required as space is limited.

Social with Sarah - Flip The Script on Aging 5/18 

This May, join Active Adults Supervisor Sarah for a meaningful conversation as we celebrate Older Americans Month by flipping the script on aging. We will discuss that growing older isn’t about slowing down it’s about resilience, confidence, and continuing to thrive. Let’s challenge outdated stereotypes, celebrate our stories, and recognize the strength, wisdom, and joy that come with every stage of life.

SilverSneakers, Renew Active/One Pass & Silver N’ Fit Orientation 5/18 

Join us for highlights of our Active Adult programming and a guided tour of the rec center. Learn about the benefits of your SilverSneakers, Renew Active/One Pass, or Silver N’ Fit membership. The tour includes a brief overview of how to properly use the circuit and cardio machines. Free for SilverSneakers, Renew Active, One Pass, and Silver N’ Fit members. Advanced registration required.

Hearing Screening 5/21 

May is Better Hearing Month! Family Hearing will be offering complimentary hearing screenings at the Carbon Valley Community Center. Whether you're noticing hearing difficulties, or just want to establish a baseline schedule an appointment. Just need a hearing aide cleaning? Add your name to the waitlist for between appointments. Space is limited. Registration in advance required by May 18, 2026.

Willmaker Legal Seminar 5/27 

A wonderful way to get a tough job finished! In a single, easy and enjoyable session, you'll complete a will, living will, medical power of attorney, financial power of attorney and more, all with the help of licensed attorney, Rebecca L. Bennetti and her staff. Couples must register separately. Registration required by May 22, 2026.

Tech Help 6/2 

Have questions about your devices? The High Plains Library District Outreach Librarians will be on-site to help! Bring your smartphone, tablet, or computer and get hands-on assistance with everything from apps to troubleshooting common issues. Same great program as before, but a new day and time.

Healthier Living Diabetes Colorado Class Series 6/4 

*Series is on Thursdays, June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2 & 9: Community Center, Craft Room

Exertion Level: 1

Join us for the weekly series about healthier living with diabetes. Learn tools to become a better self-manager of your diabetes. People with diabetes and/or their caregivers are encouraged to attend. Participants learn how to reduce stress, read nutrition labels, prevent low blood sugar, delay complications, and understand the importance of exercise. Advanced registration required by Friday May 29, 2026.
